The Ancestor

The first Ancestor was created in August 2022 at  the 40th annual Symposium International des Art Contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul

This piece is a natural extension of my installation The Keepers, created at the KOAC in 2020-2021.  It is a height foot tall tree like sculpture, made of recycled corrugated cardboard.  A forest canopy that cycled through the four seasons is projected from the top of the sculpture onto the ceiling. To create the video, I filmed the forest behind my studio, always under the same section of trees, over the course of a year. This process allows for a physical immersion in a natural environment. The projection extends the sculpture upward giving it an extended visual hight. Te Ancestor is an embodied reminder of time, memory and continuity.

This work joins the installation The Keepers in exhibitions.
